In addition to my previous comment, I feel CHANGE is a collage that signifies us all no matter what your background. As a Haitian-American woman, I look at that picture and I see a people rising from slavery and going to the top of the economic chain, and I relate to that. But it's bigger than that. It's about learning and growing, and moving beyond. It's been painful and it's been rough. It's still rough in most cases. But this collage depicts the strength of a people, black and white, who are learning from past injustices. A nation who is healing from past wrongs. The beauty of this picture is that we can actually see how far we've come and how much we've grown.

Symbolically for me, Obama & the white house represents the American people, of every race, giving us all a voice. But covered with the black skin that was so despised. We have all finally come into our own. This is America we are one people.

I feel very strongly that it's ignorant to use the "N" word. There's absolutely no excuse for anyone to use that word. We can't say that young people don't know. Everyone knows. Black people had been slaves for 200 years. We went through years of persecution and not being accepted even after we were given our freedom. And it's still being talked about, the pain, the blame. I think everyone is still coming to terms with that. So how can anyone say they don't know? Or that it's just between friends? Yes, it is their right to say what they want. But they injure themselves and our children by not respecting what came before. I think we should acknowledge the "N" for what it is. We should always remember where it came from so that we don't end up back there again.

There is so much that I would like to say, but there's only 24 hours in the day. So I'll just say this. I am in agreement that history is very fascinating. But I strongly disagree that President Obama's father was a failure in helping to build change in his community. Whether or not we can see the effects of what he has done on a wide or small scale, he has invoked change just by thinking and doing something about the issue he was dealing with. As you said, he inspired President Obama to public service. How many others has he also inspired. That is what change is. Sometimes change happens slowly, others faster. I feel this man must have had a lot of strength and character to have been able to leave his wife and child to go back to his country to make a difference. I take a look at the many people who were jumping for joy in Africa when President Obama won the presidency. Some said how proud they were and how they remember his father. The man made a difference because he had a dream and he followed it. His son was inspired by him and who knows how many more. The word failure surely does not apply here.

I am inspired by your photograph and your words. It is refreshing to hear a voice admonishing us to just be ourselves.

People may have lost faith that their words can actually make a difference. In a city that always votes in one direction, such as democratic, it is easy to avoid taking a stand. If you vote democratic, in principle, then you can say, "Oh, I don't need to vote; the democrats will win anyway." Or the converse, "Oh, there is no reason to vote, the republicans never win here." But, all we have is our word. We should make it count! I intend to vote.

Keep up the good work Victoria!

I've always been inspired by your photography and this one is no exception. I'm also proud to be an American. Our system has its problems and we're always striving to make it better. I'm glad that I live in a country where a citizen no matter what his standing or economic background, race or gender can be President.

We've had a lot of problems these last eight years due to the Republican regime. I'm in agreement with Mary, deregulation and deficit spending has really hurt us a lot. That's why I could NEVER vote for McCain. He's another Bush with grayer hair. And I'm not looking for another Bush to run this country to the ground. Up until last month he was still praising Bush, now he's trying to distance himself from him so he can get elected. He's even trying to gain the women's vote by bringing in Palin. (Don't get mne started there.) As if that's not enough, he's changed his slogan to 'Change'. The good ole boy is now going for 'Change'. But like Biden said at the debate last night, what are going to be the differences in his policies with George W's?

Most of the good politicians I've known have been 'community organizers' who have worked with the people and know and care something about them. I don't get that from McCain. What I get is an ex-soldier, who knows a lot about war. A war I want to see ended.

I don't feel we always have to be in unity to move forward. We need to vote and think for the person we as individuals want in office. Sometimes a different decision can be the start of 'Change'. And for me that's where Obama comes in.

One more thing, the most experienced candidate is not always the best candidate. Remember it wasn't a beginner that got us here. It was an experience candidate. New blod can make a hell of a difference. Another thing to remember is that the President doesn't make any decision by himself. He surrounds himself with experienced advisors, and his cabinet.

Thank you.

I love the picture and your thoughts and the thoughts of others really made me think of a true ideal of what leadership should be.

This media is a great form because it is the only truly unbiased media. It reminds me that we should all remain free thinkers and not be swayed by the rhetoric of the print and news media. We should open our minds and form our own educated opinions on whom to vote for outside of media influence.

We should vote for the candidate that best embodies what this country stands economically in a free market economy and stay away from socialist ideals that have crippled other countries.

We should vote for the most experienced candidate, and the candidate who can lead us back to prosperity. An inexperienced political leader can potentially be disastrous for this country in this fragile time.

We can't afford to have a candiate like Barack Obama. We must regain the republican stance of fiscal conservativeness. In these fragile economic times we cannot afford to have a president who's programs will force taxes to go up for the middle class. We must have less government not more government and a president who actually stands for the issues as evidenced by his voting record. We need a leader that when faced with a decision will not vote "present". That is not a leader and not what America needs.

In midst of the failed economic policies and the subprime mess that we are in. We cannot afford to have a president who's policies led to this mess. Barack Obama once sued Citibank under the CRA for not granted enough subprime loans, Obama thought it was appropriate that Citibank customers literally show their welfare income to qualify for mortgages. The same President who had more political contributions in four years than any other politician. We cannot afford to have our interests represented by special interests.

We are about America, We are about Unity, We are about patriotism, and leadership. John McCain embodies those qualities.

When looked at the picture unbiased from media pressure, I see my embodiment for the next president of the United States, John MCain.

Ideally, I agree. Unfortunately the individuals we are voting for are ruled by the party line, and that, in effect, takes our "freedom of choice" away. Certainly we can choose to vote for an independent or alternative party candidate, but in a country of lemmings who blindly buy into the rhetoric of whichever party they've registered with (assuming they've registered at all), independent votes are basically wasted, and more and more we are left with the "lessor of two evils" choice.

Even in the unlikely event a true independent is elected to the white house, they would still be under the influence of the government machine. Radical change is possible, but it will take several hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

Even so, I am happy and confident that the change will happen.

I read your great inspired thoughts about our country and the genius of the original thinkers. I completely agree that we need to be unified about our thinking and not thinking just party politics. However it is a very real reality that the Republicans for the last 8 years have had a very clear, strong strategy for supporting anti regulation, deficit spending, anti choice and basically it has been this ideology that is really put America in the deepest debt, the lowest international standing, and middle class Americans are suffering. It is very real and it came because Republicans have moved so far to the right in their thinking. And i truly believe and hear that they think they are right in their thinking. And those that believe that war is a solution, that supporting large corporate interests will eventually support all Americans...perhaps this might have been true at one time when business was ethical but it is not now- will vote for McKean. So yes we should work towards a unified American philosophy and we should not be naive to think if we put McKean into the white house next term that we will see any big changes in the approach to the war, or to economics. He is a good old boy and he is commited to that. Barack may be new, but he is intelligent, he listens, he would create an awesome team of which i want to be a part. It is not just about the President, it is the team that he chooses. I do trust Hilary on this she is supporting Obama 100% knowing that he did win the publics support and so i believe since we have a party system that we need to participate effectively in that method which was put forward by our original forefathers.
